the 1959 election was singapore's first democratic election. 520,000 people turned up to participate. a law concerning singapore was passed on from 1957. this made it easier for those who were not born in singapore to get a singapore citizenship. the parties worked very hard to gain the people's confidence and votes. the parties discussed their programmes through rallies, pamplats, press and radio. the parties went around with speakers in their trucks so that people can hear them.
